Hiking paradise Radstadt
Hiking is still one of the most popular leisure activities, which certainly has its reasons. The step-by-step conquest of nature not only keeps you in shape, but also offers a feast for the eyes: to the North the Dachstein and to the South Radstädter Tauern. Jagged cliffs, hikeable peaks over 2000 meters high and lush alpine meadows lift the spirits of hikers.
Whoever climbs the nearly 1800 meter Rossbrand has a clear view of more than 150 alpine peaks. A network of well maintained and marked trails originate in Radstadt. Families with children can choose easy hikes that gently ascend through luscious meadows or fragrant forests. Simple mountain fare is served in the alpine snack bars and rustic cabins.
The “Radstädter Wanderbus – Radstadt hiking bus” offers a special service. On Monday and Thursday, from June 7 to October 11, 2012 it takes vacationers to the most interesting trail heads and brings them back again. Many new hiking alternatives and combinations arise when using the shuttle, e.g. you can hike uphill on foot and take the bus back down or vice versa. For those who are not into walking, the shuttle drives twice a day to the top of Radstadt’s own mountain, the 1.770 meter Roßbrand, where you have a panoramic view of more than 150 alpine peaks.
In addition, there is close collaboration with the neighboring town of Forstau: here one can transfer from the hiking bus to the “Biotope Express”, a tractor with a converted trailer for the passengers. Enjoy a ride to Forstauwinkel, one of the most beautiful valley heads in the Radstadt Tauern mountains
The use of the hiking bus costs for holders of Radstadt Sportwelt Card (guest card) Euro 1,- per way (children from 6-15 Euro years 0,50). Without the guest card a one-day ticket can be purchased for 5 euro. You can find the time-table HERE.
