Salzburg

Missing the city life? No problem: Salzburg is reachable via the Autobahn and offers many attractive cultural landmarks. Take a look at the house where Mozart was born, amble along the world famous Getreidegasse and enjoy the wonderful gardens of the Mirabell castle. 

Liechtensteinklamm gorge

How about this: the mighty roar of the waterfall, the lush green mossy rocks, an atmosphere reminding you of legendary times and sunbeams turning fine mist into a rainbow.

Rossbrand

The Rossbrand (1.7968 m) is numbered among the most beautiful look-out mountains in the eastern Alps with good reason. The summit offers you a 360° panorama of nearly 150 prominent alpine peaks: the Dachstein to the North, the Tennen and Hagen mountain ranges as well as the Großglockner and the Radstadt and Schladming Tauern the grandeur of the Alps as far as the eye can see. Eight mighty tablets are sunk in around the cross at the summit. Among other interesting topics, they tell the story of how the surrounding landscape was formed.

Eisriesenwelt

The Eisriesenwelt is a gigantic labyrinth of ice-caves over 40 kilometers in length. As with all caves their formation continued over a long time period. Even today the caves in the Alps are in the process of developing further.

Salt mines

Salt used to be called “white gold”. True enough, the salt deposits in the Dürrnberg mountain near Hallein represented the treasure chamber of the entire region. Impressive marks left by the Kelts show that the mountain’s precious gift was mined as early as 500 BC. 

Jägersee

The idyllically situated Jägersee lake in the Kleinarl valley is set in a landscape preservation area. For parents and children the hike begins at the “Gasthof Jägersee” and takes them along the reed belt which is a nesting area for local birds.

Hohenwerfen Fortress

A large variety of entertainment awaits visitors at the castle Hohenwerfen: guided tours of the castle, including an exhibit on weaponry, a stylish tavern and a knight’s shop. Furthermore, you can visit the province’s historic falconry center with its daily shows as well as regularly changing special exhibitions.

Mauterndorf Fortress

History is presented in a unique way at the medieval castle Mauterndorf in Lungau county, where one time travels back to the dark ages.

Dachstein Ice-palace - Dachstein Glacier - Dachstein Sky Walk

A tour takes you deep inside the glacier that is full of large niches, past attractions like the “Throne Room”, the “Crystal Dome” or the “Blue Salon”. The Dachstein mountain range is a gigantic primeval coral reef which is almost 3.000 meters above sea level. An especially breathtaking natural spectacle on the Dachstein glacier is the Dachstein sky Walk at sunrise. 

Freilichtmuseum - Open-air museum 

Just south of Salzburg you can immerse into the rural past. Take a walk through six centuries of history in Salzburg’s largest museum you can. There are many more attractions besides the collection of 70 buildings from the districts of Flauchgau, Tennengau, Pongau, Pinzgau and Lungau.

Großglockner

With an elevation of 3.789 meters the Großglockner is not only the tallest mountain in Austria, but also one of the tallest in the eastern Alps. The famous high alpine road takes you to the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park – to Austria’s highest mountain and the Pasterze, its glacier.

Krimml Waterfalls

The Krimml Falls are the highest waterfalls in Europe! This natural wonder drops over 380 meters in three stages. From the WaterWonderWorld it is a mere 10 minute walk along the Austrian Alpine Club’s well paved path to the foot of the lower falls. 

Wildlife park Untertauern

You can spend the entire day with your family in the Wildlife Park Untertauern. Here you can take your ease, whether you try your hand at fishing, feed the animals, spend your time playing volleyball, ride the excursion train, hang out at the lake or take some refreshments at the “Wildparkstüberl”.
